OneUpMe.com is a community of creative thinkers who come together every day to play wordplay games. Every weekday, new topics are posted in a variety of games and players attempt to "one-up" each other in the cleverness of their responses. To get to know the site a bit more, check out the Archive to see some of the past games. Then check out the Forum to see the latest conversations.
ForumIt's funny to see how many different kinds of scooters the players are posting about: the sit on kind like Grams rides, the motorcycle type and let's not leave out the kid type that you push with one foot. All good!
Yesterday was strange. I was in the Top 10 early with "managed my hedge fund", great start, and then a wall. Big time. Dropped all the way to 26. Does this happen often? Is it that the morning voters had more/less taste than evening voters? Just very strange.
Okay, thanks Tony, I'll try that...not that my post today is worth beans.
Bonnie, it's a group of ten fb profiles in a box labeled 'TOP 10 TODAY (RANDOMLY)'
I just stopped in for a brief visit. I was curious to see what you guys would do with 'landscaper'. Congrats. I see lots of wonderful posts.
hiatus hi-a-t-es
1. The most recent Steven King horror installment, in which two pissed off departed souls reveal that their former pal, Hyman, murdered them on a camping trip and consumed them both to conceal the evidence.
2. A gap or interruption in time, a break - as in Steve Jaffe will be taking a hiatus from OUM for an indefinite amount of...See more
You know you don't have to leave, just limit your time to no more than 5 minutes to come up with a post and then vote as often as you can. It's a way to be connected yet not. My post today got 17 votes I spent 45seconds on coming up with it. That to me is half the fun, speed OUM. Don't leave, change how you play the game...
You will be missed Steve. Good luck with your writing and looking forward to your return.
I am surprised to be in the top ten today. I almost didn't play because I only had the one idea and I thought it was rather uncreative. I see many posts that are way more thought out than mine and much more creative and yet they have less votes. I'd love to see one of them knock me right out.
I know I got a couple creative ones too. I see your super awesome post might be leading tho, Chris.

I want to go out on a limb.
I have a repost Analogy I didn't use because I saw voting was slow and didn't want to end up with less votes in exchange. I still want your opinion about the post. Would have it gotten any votes?
My unused Analogy post..... "She needs to get a grip to find her place"
David, Tom Swifiies will be the game played on Tuesday in OUM Daily. I don't see the starter yet because I live on the west coast.
So if you followed Tom's game your game drop down will be OUM Daily now.
I like the "grip" aspect but props don't need anything...they are inanimate.
Well .. Time Zone Zaniness definitely lived up to its name. After trailing the Central Time Zoners the entire week, on the final day of the competition - the sun did truly rise in the East. Thanks to some very bright posts, the Eastern Time Zoners overtook the lead. They won by the slimmest of margins - by an average of 69 versus 68.70 for the Central...See more
Steve, looking at the score sheet...the East had the highest average for 3 days...not just 1...Weds., Thurs. and Fri. And yes, we WON overall average by the slimmest of margins! Good job everyone!
Thanks for the shout-out, Steve! Concatulations to all my teammates and a big thanks to the organizers of this fun challenge! Yay, Team East!!!! :)
I've lost the link to the Time Zone Challenge ... who won?
Linda, here is the score sheet. By the looks of it, with all the missing scores, it's hard to tell.

Scores are in...go see!
Geez, I'm sorry!!! The last challenge I managed to post my scores...this time I totally forgot! Maybe it's because I was stinking up the east coast. Ha!
2 votes...is that all that I "rate"?
I'm punished for posting so late!
Today time just flew
So what can one do?
Post early and don't ever wait!
been there, done that...you might have gotten mine but I got home five minutes too late:( Later votes definitely don't get the attention they deserve.
I don't think anyone gets mine... Do you folks know what those barriers are called in the center of the highway? Are they the same everywhere? Well, maybe it's just not that funny.
Hi, Meredith - I don't think you "get" the ones that I got. :-)
So many re-posts today! I'm sticking with my sad, lonely, pathetic post. Only because I can not crack this coconut! :(
Good morning, my fellow OUMers. Well .. with two days in the books, the Central Time Zoners are the center of attention. They have a commanding lead over the East and West/Mountain TZ. However, remember - this is a marathon and not a sprint. Stay tuned. Will (like the sun) the vote totals rise in the East? Will the Mountain and Western players...See more
Massive analogy fail today - quite spectacular!
Hugs
so not exactly cuckoo for coconuts Linda?!?
That a girl, Linda! When you do something, do it big!!
(PSsst, coconuts on trees are not brown, round or hairy. They are greenish yellow and oblong shaped. When the husk is removed you can see the round part. You can drink the milk before it has turned to meat only)
Welcome back Megan! i'll have to start posting to the Tuna Fish forum again.
Oh yes, tons of new music for your hearing pleasure.I just downloaded a some goodies.

Thanks to whomever for posting my scores - I have had little or no access to OUM this week, and of all the weeks for access to leave me... *sigh*
John, I bet you are accessing 1UpMe via a cell phone or ipad. Sometimes the page will not load the first time. When the box pops up reload again. Most of the time the page loads then. That's what I've noticed with my cell phone.
Or refreshing the open bookmark/page on the phone. It's a patience tester for sure.
So I make what I think is a diabolically clever post riffing on "once" that starts all limericks and get 3 votes. I think it's time for me to retire.
Well, my fellow OUMers, the next OUM Challenge has arrived - and it's about time. TIME ZONE ZANINESS. Eastern, Central and Mountain/Pacific. The four non US players have been drawn from a hat and placed in each of the three US zones. All players please open a new browser window and copy and paste the link to the new game doc.

Please take me off the Pacific list...I'm too swamped at work to play this week.
Thanks! As much as I love home, it would be nice if I really was in East USA
Hey. I wrote today's analogy starter, not whomever that person is....
That person is Dalene Mactier, our hard-working analogy co-host. There is a glitch in that once a person has been credited for a topic, it cannot be changed. It seems that our hosts shuffled things around in order to timely use your topic suggestion today, Meredith. You've been credited in the forum.

Aw, gee, thanks guys!
Analogies today has been rough.
My measly 2 votes aint enough.
I had to repost,
and I threatened the host
that tomorrow I'll play in the buff
whatever it takes is alright by me
I'm good for a vote, Chris!
A pic in the buff
Would greatly be appreciated
As the ladies above have gleefully stated
Your wins are a pleasure to see
But we're going to hold you to your word
No harm in seeing a naked tushy.

A big thank you goes out to Meredith Phillips for suggesting Monday's topic 'Limerick' in honor of Edward Lear's birthday. Party on.

Facebook is a social utility that connects people with friends and others who work, study and live around them. People use Facebook to keep up with friends, upload an unlimited number of photos, post links...
Then who is that person you attributed it to? ;)
Well, my fellow OUMers, it's about time - for our next OUM Challenge, that is. This one, however, is all about time. I'm talking Time Zones. Eastern, Central and Mountain/Pacific. There will three groups for everyone to sign up under. All outside of the US players will be added to the three groups accordingly. I hope everyone will find the time...See more

Why am I not getting tmw's Analogy? Old age seeping in?
Oops the great cultural divide again!

Thanks Dalene, this one will be a good challenge and fun.
To Whom can i suggest an analogy starter?
Meredith - if you'd like to private message with with your suggestion, that would be great. Please also include a starter, Submit as many as you like,
I meant to write 'private message me'

Can tomorrow's started really be one up'd? :D
My average vote in ths game is 6.66.
Not only is that bad but it is awfully close to the mark of the beast.
I'll have to work on that.
I can't repost from my phone. Great.
nice process Kelly! I have a hard time on the phone too:(
Dagnabbit! I can't repost from my phone either :( Great re-post though!
Urgh... the starter is "compost BIN" not "compost." I liked a couple that I wish I could have unliked once I realized they were about compost, not the bin.
Boy, I'm a lousy voter. I usually vote several times but only to pick up the newer posts. I just made a full pass, and boy, did I miss some good ones the first time through. Probably this time too. I wonder why that is? Please don't answer that. I'm fragile.
Yes, you are.

Yea for team Earth! To maintain my reputation as a "poor me" whiner, I'd like to say I did my bit for King and Cox Miles by dropping out. I have amassed 21 votes for the week, not counting the one for today. I have single-handedly kept your average from dipping down to a woeful 66.33.
Again, way to go. It's good to be grounded.
Oh you!!! We would have been honored to team with you regardless. :)
I really couldn't commit. I did not play at all yesterday, played many games on Wednesday but was unable to vote (due to a certain delightful granddaughter — you're time is coming). I'm looking forward to seeing the results and am a committed earther.
Three days of Zodiac Zaniness are in the books. Team Earth is still on solid ground with a 53.7 average, Breathing much easier is Team Air in second place at 48.2. Water is making waves with an average of 46.2 followed by Team Fire at 40.29. There's still two days of scoring to account for. Will Team Earth crumble? Will Fire get fired uo? Stay...See more
I can't. I've tried! I can't even read my messages past one month. any advice? My computer and spy ware seem to be working fine. I'm so sorry. we post a million links on this site!
No apologies Donna. None needed, it could have came from any of us. It was a post from 2 months ago.
On behalf of the Chicago chapter of Team Earth, I would like to lodge a formal complaint against team Water. The 100 year floods we experienced today here in the Suburbs of Chicago, which visited the area with misfortune and severely impeded OUM play, was not very sportsmanlike. That is my excuse and I'm sticking to it.
With Monday and Tuesday in the books, Team Earth has a solid lead on the other elements with a 33.9 average, A distant second, but not totally washed up, is Team Water at 27.5. Fire cooled down a bit after their scorching Monday start to rest in third at 26.8. Team Air is gasping for breath at 23.8 - however Team Air did have two top ten finishers...See more
